Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Majority Leader, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, citing the country’s gradual stability, fiscal and monetary progress, and significant economic growth in 2024.
Despite the challenges posed by inflation and foreign exchange instability, Bamidele believes that the National Assembly’s multi-tiered interventions have yielded impressive results, including the commencement of operations at Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals, Port Harcourt Refining Company, and Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company.
Bamidele highlighted the National Assembly’s achievements, including: steady growth in gross domestic products, with 2.98% growth in the first quarter, 3.19% in the second quarter, 3.46% in the third quarter, and a projected 4% growth in the fourth quarter; a significant reduction from 97% in June 2023 to 65% in November 2024; initiatives aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges, promoting investors’ confidence, and creating limitless opportunities for Nigerians.
Looking ahead to 2025, Bamidele emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the National Assembly, the people, civil society, the media, and other stakeholders to achieve the country’s priorities, including: scrutiny and passage of the bill; investigation and implementation of tax reforms; investigation into alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry; amendment of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Bamidele concluded by emphasizing the importance of collective effort and collaboration in achieving Nigeria’s goals and promoting the country’s interests.
