The 1930 building in Ede town

This building, erected in 1930 in Ede, Osun State, has a story behind it.

It was said to be the first of its kind in the entire town of Ede and was said to be built by the king, Timi Sanusi Akangbe.

Though not the official residence of the reigning monarch, it was the private residence of Timi Akangbe who was the tenth ruler of Ede from 1934 to 1945.

Nickamed “Timi Agunyan ma se’su (‘the king who produces pounded yam without recourse to yams’)”, Timi Akangbe began the construction of the personal residence in the late 1930s.

The building was located very close to the official palace.

On completion, it became the talk of the town, as it was the first of its kind in Ede. He housed some members of his extended family in the building and, occasionally, he hosted guests in the house.

It is 95 years old and still standing.
