He described the 8,000-seater cathedral as far more than an architectural masterpiece, noting that it stands as a consecrated dwelling of God and a powerful symbol of holiness, repentance, and spiritual renewal.
The Senator emphasized that the Catholic Church has remained a pillar of guidance, hope, and stability, particularly during periods of economic difficulty and social uncertainty.
He acknowledged the foundational role played by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, commending his courage and foresight in embarking on the project during the prime of his life.
Senator Nwachukwu also commended the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, and all contributors, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices that ensured the successful completion of the cathedral.
The dedication ceremony attracted a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, APGA National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, Senator Victor Umeh, Hon. Somto Udeze, and renowned industrialist Sir Cletus Ibeto, among others.
The solemn inaugural Mass was presided over by an eminent assembly of church leaders, including Francis Cardinal Arinze, Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke, and the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, alongside over 75 bishops and numerous priests.
Senator Nwachukwu concluded by offering prayers for the Church and the diocese, expressing hope that the cathedral would continue to inspire spiritual zeal, moral uprightness, and godly living for generations to come.
The cathedral is expected to have a profound impact on the moral, social, and economic well-being of the people.
