Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), president of the Nigerian Barristers Association (NBA) remains a role model to the Association, the NBA Chairman of Nyanya- Karu branch, Barr. Alex Edim has come out to prove and defend.
He addressed journalists on Wednesday in his office in Abuja
In his accusation, he had this to say: “No amount of blackmail or hired scripting can demean the hard-earned reputation of the president of NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN). I am authoritatively saying that it is on record that
Lawyers like Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja, a Senior Counsel of Nigeria (SCN) have taken it as a point of responsibility to engage in consistent verbal attacks on the person and integrity of the president of the Bar.
“He and his type have consistently been used as attack dogs to repudiate the person of our highly esteemed president of the NBA. There is no gain saying that some very revered lawyers have joined in this blatant show of shame, by issuing non-complementary press conferences and undeserving/unnecessary court actions.”
He continued: “We must bear in mind that NBA elections will certainly come and go, but the Bar will remain as one indivisible body. It is therefore my humble desire, that we focus on issue-based campaigns and prepare for the election rather than being distracted with court processes that will bring our noble profession to disrepute.”
Edim concluded thus: “All aspirants are ours and whoever the majority wants will emerge at the end of the day, yet everyone will rally round the winner for a progressive Bar. We should therefore be careful not to step on toes in the course of our support for a particular candidate.
I want to use this opportunity to call on Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja (SCN), who by his new rank does not belong to the NBA ,to allow the NBA to breathe.”
