Benue state Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has paid tribute to the late Hon. Terfa Atii, a former member of the House of Representatives.
Late Atii who represented Kwande/Ushongo was described as one of the pacesetters in the political evolution of the area.
Represented by the Benue State Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Denis Ter Iyaghigba, and accompanied by the Ushongo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Terkimbi Adzu, the Governor’s message was delivered with deep emotion and profound respect for a life well lived.

The Commissioner first paid a courtesy visit to the bereaved family, where they were warmly received by the Head of the family, Atii Kenneth, alongside the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Mbawuese Terfa Atii as well as the children, Sughnen Terfa Atii, Msughter Terfa Atii, and Ishughun Terfa Atii.
In that intimate moment, the Governor’s representative conveyed heartfelt condolences, describing the late Hon. Atii as a trailblazer whose political journey was defined by selfless service, courage, and brought about unquantifiable dividends to the people he represented.
Moving beyond the family, the Governor’s emissary engaged with traditional rulers, political stakeholders, members of the burial planning committee, and various youth and women organizations in the local government area.
The Governor’s message centred on unity which he said remains the strongest pillar upon which the future of Ushongo must stand.
Governor Alia urged all sons and daughters of the land to close ranks, set aside differences, and collectively work towards sustainable development.
In a firm but measured tone, the Governor also frowned at the reckless use of his name by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit others.
He reassured the people of his administration’s commitment to transparency and inclusiveness, emphasizing that consultations with critical stakeholders would guide the emergence of credible candidates for elective positions.
He further expressed his desire to personally visit Ushongo Local Government Area in the near future, a promise that was met with optimism and anticipation.
Responding, community leaders and stakeholders expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for appointing Hon. Denis Ter Iyaghigba into the State Executive Council acknowledging his commitment to impact positively on the existence of the area.
They commended the Governor’s visible impact, particularly citing infrastructural strides such as the Ushongo-Gbem road, rural electrification projects, and strategic appointments that have uplifted the local government.
Hon. Adzu in his contribution commended the Governor for shining his face on the local government and bringing out credible hands from the area to support his administration.
He expressed his total commitment and loyalty to the administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia noting that, the state has witnessed an unprecedented development.
The Ushongo people expressed their
readiness to host the Governor at his earliest convenient time.
