The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for Nigeria Fashion Week 2026, scheduled to hold from October 2 to 4 in Abuja.
The Minister gave the assurance when she received a delegation from Legendary Gold, organisers of Nigeria Fashion Week, Qualitrend Group, the event’s Government Relations Partner, and members of the organising committee led by the Chief Executive Officer of Legendary Gold, Lexy Mojo-Eyes.
Musawa reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that position Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries as key drivers of entrepreneurship, economic growth, job creation, investment and global competitiveness.
She particularly emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for women and young people to participate meaningfully in the creative economy, noting that Nigeria’s vast cultural and creative assets could be transformed into sustainable economic opportunities.
The Minister’s renewed support is expected to further strengthen the profile of Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 as one of the country’s major platforms for promoting fashion, culture, tourism and creative enterprise.
Speaking during the visit, Mojo-Eyes described fashion as a powerful expression of art, heritage and cultural identity, stressing that the sector had evolved beyond the runway to become an important component of the wider economy.
According to him, the fashion industry contributes significantly to tourism, investment, manufacturing and the growth of businesses operating across the fashion value chain.
He said Nigeria Fashion Week was designed to provide a platform for Nigerian and international designers, models, manufacturers, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to connect, showcase talent and explore opportunities within the global fashion economy.
The 2026 edition is expected to further deepen conversations around the role of fashion and culture in driving economic development while highlighting Nigeria’s creative talent and cultural diversity to a global audience.
The event is also expected to attract key players from across the fashion, tourism, cultural and creative sectors as Nigeria continues to strengthen its position as a leading hub for Africa’s creative economy.
