The Benue State Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Denis Ter Iyaghigba, has charged the people of Ushongo Local Government Area to rally behind the administration of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia and ensure his re-election for a second term in office.
Hon. Iyaghigba gave the charge on Sunday, September 6, 2026, while speaking on the sidelines of a Thanksgiving Service organised by Barr. Stanley Terna Iorvihi at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Church, Alumunku, Mbagba, Ushongo Local Government Area.
The Commissioner said the people of Ushongo had a responsibility to reciprocate the commitment of the Alia administration to the development of the state by giving the Governor their unalloyed support beyond his first tenure.
According to him, the Governor’s development agenda has continued to impact communities across the state, stressing that sustained support for the administration would enable it to consolidate its achievements and do more for the people.
In a major development for the Mbagba community, Hon. Iyaghigba disclosed that Governor Alia had authorised him to liaise with relevant stakeholders towards commencing work on the Branch u Kuhwa–Atekombo–Hegha–Mmbele–Iorliam–Ahoo to Abia road.
He described the road as critical to connecting the Mata axis with the Mbagwa and improving access, movement of people and goods, as well as stimulating economic activities in the area.
The Commissioner, who is the first Commissioner from Mbagba since the creation of Benue State 50 years ago, also urged the people of Ushongo to embrace unity and support every son or daughter of the area appointed into government.
He appealed to the people to see the appointments secured by their kinsmen as collective opportunities for the development of Ushongo, rather than as individual achievements.
Hon. Iyaghigba further called on the people to rally around him as their political leader, stressing that a united and supportive constituency would place him and other appointees in a stronger position to attract more government interventions and development projects to Ushongo.
He said the progress of the local government depended largely on the ability of its people to work together, support one another and leverage their positions within government for the collective good.
The Commissioner therefore urged the people of Mbagba and the entire Ushongo Local Government Area to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Alia, assuring them that their cooperation would contribute significantly to the realisation of more developmental projects in the area.
